Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission ( CRTC ) makes a bold move in Canada according to the mainstream media it has shocked some of the industry leaders, CRTC)  denied proposed Bell’s takeover over of Astral Media – holy …..  this is a pretty huge bold move and news for Canada and many who have been voicing about this merger deal.

”  Bell acquired Astral Media for  $3.4 billion. But the deal was too big to happen without some glitches —the merger acquired a deep investigation from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission according to the mainstream media news and  CRTC  blocked this deal – I am sure some folks must be  celebrating specially the campaign group petitioning against this merger called the  ” Open Media”  Advisory  group  states   on their website ” The public demands the CRTC stop Bell’s takeover.  I know of this  organization well  at one time,  I had supported  and set -up a new media tool connection with access over my platform with a  few youth working with me in 2009.

The national regulator killed this merger, saying the combined companies would be impossible to police without “extensive and intrusive safeguards” needing to be imposed against all broadcasters across the country. and Globe and Mail journalist wrote “the commission didn’t see any reason to allow one company to control as much as 42% of the English television market and 33% of the French.”

“BCE”  failed to persuade us the deal would benefit Canadians,” said chairman Jean-Pierre Blais. “It would have placed significant market power in the hands of one of the country’s largest media companies. We could not have ensured a robust Canadian broadcasting system without imposing extensive and intrusive safeguards, which would have been to the detriment of the entire industry.”
